Isaac Ariail Reed works in social theory, historical sociology, and cultural sociology. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from Yale University in 2007, and his B.A. in Mathematics and Sociology & Anthropology from Swarthmore College in 2000. In 2015 he received the Lewis Coser Award for Theoretical Agenda Setting from the American Sociological Association Section on Theory. He is also the Co-Director of The Hannah Arendt Working Group on Critical Theories of Modernity at The Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture.
He currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife Jennifer and daughter Hannah, where he is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia.
